Eating out... in Singapore

It's been a long and busy week and after having clocked in 65 hrs this week you want to treat yourself to some good food. You hope that it comes with good service which is hard to find in Singapore unless you are paying through the nose. Now I am not a champ at trying out every new place that opens up in Singapore, but I do my due. Though being a vegetarian and being a big fan of the north indian food does limit my experience. Now before I go ahead and tell you about the places I like to visit, I'll issue a disclaimer. Please try out the following places at your own risk. I don't give a damn nor take any responsibility of your experience.

Heritage - This is one place that I do love to visit and do think is one of the top Indian Restaurants in Singapore. It offers an excellent cuisine of Veg/Non-Veg North Indian Food. Though I have not tried the non veg food myself but have paid hefty bills for friends who have and loved it. It can be a great place to go for a date as well. The service is excellent and more often than not you would get personalised treatment. It can be a great visit on a weekend though being far from the city (Bukit Timah) is a negative for the Heritage.

Saffron Bistro - Its Friday night and you are craving for some North Indian food. Assuming that your office is in the city and you are not in the mood to travel a lot or spend through your the nose, then Saffron Bistro is the place to go. Located bang at Boat Quay and offering Naan and Rice on the house on Fridays, you are sure going to return home much more satisfied that you would have expected to. The place has a calming ambience about it and gives its customers quite warm a service. And before I forget, don't leave the place without trying out the masala chai.

Aangan - Good lunch buffet that do not leave a hole in your pocket are hard to find in Singapore. The Aangan lunch buffet is one of them. Priced at a modest 10 SGD the lunch can very fulfilling. Located at Funan, this place is ideal for taking a long lunch break during a hard days work. Make sure that you book in advance as getting a table can be hard and you surely don't want to loose on time if you need to return to office.

I have a couple of other places in my mind too, but I think I'll leave them for my next post.
Enjoy your meal!!

Linux has fewer bugs

I read this interesting article from a Technology newsletter distributed at my office. Kudos to Linux. Quoting the article below :-

A four-year Stanford University study found that the Linux kernel programming code is better and more secure than the programming code of most proprietary software, Wired News reported yesterday. The researchers found that the 2.6 Linux production kernel -- shipped with software from Red Hat, Novell, and other Linux vendors -- contains 985 bugs in 5.7 million lines of code.

Of the 985 bugs identified, 627 were in critical parts of the kernel. Members of the open-source community have already fixed the majority of the bugs documented in the study. According to Carnegie Mellon University (CMU), commercial software typically has 20 to 30 bugs for every 1,000 lines of code. This would be equivalent to 114,000 to 171,000 bugs in 5.7 million lines of code.

Editors Comments : The story concludes that Linux is a lot cleaner than commercial code. But since the same study wasn't also done on Windows -- with its 40 million lines of code -- it doesn't prove that Linux is cleaner than Windows. Also, since the Linux study was done at Stanford and the commercial code bugs number comes from CMU, the bug statistics are not an apples-to-apples comparison.

I am back... and I am bad

The header sounds as cheesy right!!!
But its true. After 2 months of not having logged on to Blogspot, this is where I stand.
Went back home for 2 weeks for sister's wedding. It was lotsa fun and a lot more work.. For those of you who want to know more visit this website here
Have had a very exciting(read "screwed up with long working hours") time at work for the past 1 month.
Tried giving a CFA exam which was a total disaster. Don't ask me about it as I will not entertain any queries on this issue. Anyone looking for a study buddy for the next CFA L1 paper?
Things had started looking better last week but ended up working 15 hours on Friday missing the Christmas Cocktail party at office and course.... worked till 8 pm on Saturday.
Thats where I said enough!! Needed a brk....partied till 5 am on Saturday night and lazed out on Sunday...went out for movie "National Treasure".... worth a watch for those who like riddles and treasure hunting :-)
Its Monday and I had lunch at Boat Quay... things are getting better.
Well I am on training which means I can actually go out for a 1 hour lunch and even 1.5 hrs if I am lucky...

Thats all for now. My trainer has been teaching something for the last 30 mins that I have not caught a word of. He is annoyed by the sound of the keyboard as he is not sure what I am doing on the PC.

Adios
